2012 was full of all kinds of new things and adjustments in our life. So without further ado...
January was spent preparing for Jacob's arrival. We finished getting Jacob's nursery together. We took our baby class and toured the hospital. I cleaned the house like a
Jacob arrived -- a day early -- on Valentine's Day! Our perfect little guy. Recovering from a c-section wasn't ideal, but I followed the doctor's orders and healed fairly quickly. We slowly adjust to baby feedings every two hours, new sleep schedules, and how to function as new parents.
Hikes and walks in our neighborhood and surrounding area get us out of the house and into the sunshine. We're still adjusting to this whole parenting thing. Jacob grows and changes so much in his first month!
Jacob is baptized and meets his Prababcia, and other Pittsburgh relatives for the first time. He also gets to hang out with the lovely little ladies of the OMHS English department -- Jacob is a lucky little boy! We celebrate Easter with Erik's family, and Jacob starts to smile and giggle more.
May brings my birthday and my first Mother's Day. We go to Philly to celebrate -- Jacob is a great traveler! Jacob discovers that he can stick out his tongue and people will laugh. I have to go back to work. My dad and Erik's mom come to watch Jacob during the last few weeks of school for me. Jacob is starting to roll over.
Tall ships come to Baltimore! My dad is away in Europe to film a documentary, so my mom comes down to visit. We go into the city for Sailabration. Jacob has his first accident -- which is one of our first major scares with him. Aside from a few scrapes and bruises, he's perfectly fine (and I breathe a sigh of relief). Erik celebrates his first Father's Day. Jacob tries solid food for the first time. Sitting outside or at least by a door or window (which is starting to do without support) instantly calms him down.
We visit Pittsburgh -- and Jacob wishes he could try a Primanti sandwich. We go to Fort McHenry with my parents and the National Zoo with Erik's parents. We also embark on our first "family" vacation -- New England! We visit Boston, Salem, and drive up to Acadia. I have my first taste of lobster. Jacob is sitting on his own without support and starting to stand with support.
Our vacation ends -- but we've seen so much (including seals in Chatham, MA)! One of my best friends gets married -- Jacob's first wedding! Our little boy is 6 months old! Half a year has passed with him! The end of the month brings back-to-school time for me.
September is very quiet. Jacob is sitting, standing, and crawling now. He's getting into everything -- and he's becoming so much fun.
We take Jacob on his first visit to Blacksburg (and he is an awful sleeper on the trip). My parents come to visit and we meet up with Erik's parents to go to the pumpkin patch. I finally get an orange kitty -- in disguise as a baby in a tiger costume. Jacob is starting to cut his teeth.
Jacob has 4 teeth! And we paid for it on Thanksgiving with an extremely cranky baby. Jacob is cruising along furniture and can now crawl up the stairs. Baby gates are up!
Jacob's first Christmas! He doesn't quite know what to do with opening presents, and Santa is not his friend. But his giggles and laughter light up a room. He's standing on his own for short periods of time, and tearing up the house "walking" with his walker toys. He'll even walk with you if you hold his hand. He is stubborn and silly and he lets you know when he wants something or doesn't like something. He loves to shake his head "no" and is actually starting to understand what that means.
It's been so fun to watch Jacob grow and learn new things. I can't wait to see what the new year brings.
