Disney World

We took a trip to Disney World in early March.  Jacob was pretty excited, though he seems to have experienced a bit of sensory overload.  He's normally our fearless rider on various amusement park rides, but on this trip, he got scared rather easily.  He still enjoyed the trip, and he asked if we could go back every season.  Maybe if we lived in Florida, buddy.  Some highlights below:

Michael had a rough time on the plane.  Super early morning flight didn't make him a happy camper.  The flight attendants were awesome, offering him yogurt and other snacks when we took him to the back of the plane, and carrying him up and down the aisle so we could get a little break.

After some bouncing with mommy and what seemed like endless rounds of "Kotki Dwa" (a Polish lullaby), he finally fell asleep.

Jacob loved riding the train from the airport gate to the terminal.  And Michael loved the bus from the airport to the parks.

We went to the Magic Kingdom that first day.  Jacob wasn't a fan of It's a Small World (volcano sounds), or the 7 Dwarves Mine Train (too much inside in the dark).  And he wouldn't ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (the word thunder...).

The boys loved our hotel.  We stayed at All Star Movies.  They thought the giant dalmatians and pretend TV were pretty cool, even when Jacob climbed up on the little dalmatian (seen below) and then fell off...

Then next day we went to Epcot.  Jacob wasn't a fan of Soarin' (a flying hawk scared him), or Nemo (sharks), or really anything there, with the exception of the boat trip through the green houses.  But he liked trying on hats (sometimes), and thought puppets were okay.  And he refused to meet girl characters.  Only the boy characters.

Jacob wasn't a fan of this shark.  He looks like he's laughing, but he's actually screaming...

Erik thought he was getting a great deal on a beer in the park.  Joke was on him -- it was about half the size of a regular pour.

Day 3 was spent in Animal Kingdom.  Dinosaur Land was fine, until we were in the playground area and Michael and I stepped on a dinosaur footprint that made dinosaur roars.  Scared Jacob.  He went running out of the play area.  But he liked the dinosaur ride that went up and down (like the Dumbo elephants).  Let's not talk about A Bug's Life though.  Jacob left the theater, screaming, before the show was over.  He liked the safari ride, and the train ride out to Rafiki's place, but he didn't actually like anything over there.  The View was filming a few episodes while we were there (Mandy Moore was a guest) but you didn't get to stop and take pictures or anything because the park workers kept everyone moving in an effort to avoid people traffic jams.

Yup.

That night we tried to do the night show at Hollywood Studios, and we made it there, but Jacob started screaming uncontrollably when the "bad guys" started coming into the show, so we had to leave early.

The next day we went back to Hollywood Studios.  Jacob actually rode The Tower of Terror, but said he wouldn't ride it again.  And that's about it there for rides.  The rest of the things there are all movie related and require you to be seated in a theater.  Hard to do with little ones.  We left there around lunch time and headed over to Magic Kingdom to spend the rest of the day.  We did the Teacups and the carousel, and Dumbo, and Jacob rode Splash Mountain, but like Tower of Terror, he said he wouldn't ride it again.  He also wouldn't do Pirates of the Caribbean, which was actually better that he didn't.  He and I rode Aladdin's Magic Carpets and then we did the Jungle Cruise.  We thought about trying to stay for fireworks, but the boys were tired, and based on the previous night's experience, we weren't too sure how that would all play out.  So we went back to the hotel for early bedtimes.

On our final day, we had a few hours to kill before we needed to get to the airport, so we went back to the Magic Kingdom to ride a few more rides again.  We did Dumbo, and the little roller coaster, the carousel again, got lunch, tried on a few more hats, and then it was time to head to the airport.  Michael fell asleep just before we boarded, slept for about 45 minutes, then woke up because his diaper was soaking wet.  He stayed awake for the remainder of the flight, but wasn't too squirmy.  Jacob did a great job on the return flight, but he's usually a pretty good traveler (with the exception of him claiming his butt hurts when we drive anywhere in the car...).

It was a pretty good trip overall, and I'm glad we were able to go.  In a few years' time, Jacob should be a better rider, and maybe -- just maybe -- he'll pose for pictures with girl characters.
